Arsenal LFC striker Julie Fleeting is in pole position in the UEFA Women's Cup goalscorers table going into the final over the next two weekends - but several of her opponents from Umeå IK have a good chance of catching her.
Scottish striker Fleeting has hit nine goals this season, including all five in the extraordinary 5-4 win against WFC Rossiyanka that began Arsenal's campaign. However, just one goal adrift is Umeå forward Hanna Ljungberg, who was previously top scorer in their victorious season of 2002/03 with ten, including three in the two-legged final against Fortuna Hjørring, part of a record all-time tournament haul of 33. Ljungberg's total of eight goals this season is matched by the best of the eliminated players, Anett Nagy of 1. FC Femina Budapest, whose team exited in the second qualifying round.
Ljungberg has only just recovered from injury, but one goal behind her is someone sure to play a big part, Brazilian striker Marta. Another of her team-mates Lise Klaveness has struck six times but Arsenal's Kelly Smith, who has five goals this season, will not add to that total as she is suspended for the two legs of the final on 21 and 29 April. All the contenders will do well to match the feat of Conny Pohlers in winning the competition with 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam in 2004/05, when she registered 14 goals, eight ahead of her nearest rival that season.
