Mbappé fires 50th goal

Kylian Mbappé scored his 50th Champions League goal, helping Real Madrid secure a 3-2 win over Atalanta.

Receiving the ball just outside the penalty area, he took a sublime first touch with his left foot to evade his marker before rifling a right-footed shot into the bottom corner.

Mbappé opened his Champions League account with Monaco in February 2017, netting six goals that season. He went on to score 42 times for Paris over the next seven campaigns, before adding two more for Los Blancos this term.

The 25-year-old has now drawn level with Thierry Henry on 50 Champions League goals. However, Karim Benzema remains the top-scoring French player in the competition's history, with a tally of 90.

Elegant Olise caps Bayern win

Michael Olise glided through a crowd of orange shirts, feinted to wrong-foot the goalkeeper, and coolly slotted home Bayern's final goal in their 5-1 win over Shakhtar.

"When you're in a system that suits your style of play and that everyone's happy with and enjoying playing in, then it's simple to just come in and enjoy your football – and not think about anything else," said the France international.

Winger Olise provided the assist for Konrad Laimer's equaliser before extending Bayern's lead in the 70th minute with a composed penalty finish.

He has now scored four goals in six matches in his debut Champions League season.

Super-sub Ferran Torres finishes Barça job

A 71st-minute substitute, Ferran Torres made an instant impact off the bench in Dortmund, pouncing four minutes later and then finishing Lamine Yamal's cute through ball to seal Barcelona's spot in the round of 16 or knockout phase play-offs.

In a tight contest between two well-placed sides, Barça led twice through Raphinha and Ferran Torres, but Dortmund equalised both times via Serhou Guirassy.

Hans-Dieter Flick's men have recovered from an opening defeat to Monaco, winning five straight matches to join Liverpool as the second team to go through. "We obviously have big goals, but we still have a long way to go," said Barça's coach.

Five-star Stuttgart

After a decade flirting heavily with relegation and two spells in the 2. Bundesliga, Stuttgart fans may have thought Champions League nights were a thing of their gloried past. How wrong they were.

Last season's second-place top-flight finish secured a return and, while their league phase campaign has been stop-start, the German side hit the heights against Young Boys, scoring five goals for the first time in this competition and claiming a first Champions League home win in 14 years.

Angelo Stiller's equaliser was key, birthday boy Josha Vagnoman teeing him up for a goal "that burst the dam" in the words of the scorer himself. "With the euphoria that it set off among the fans, it was just a great evening."
