The National Bank of Ukraine, the sole authority responsible for issuing money in Ukraine, has released a series of commemorative coins for UEFA EURO 2012.
There are 12 coins in the series. Eleven coins in gold, silver and nickel silver have been officially put into circulation, and a coin with a face value of one hryvnia will be issued in early 2012.
Based on a licensing agreement with UEFA, the coins are officially licensed products for UEFA EURO 2012 and feature the official design marks of the event.
The National Bank of Ukraine has produced up to 500 gold coins which have a face value of 500 hryvnia, a holographic image of the official UEFA EURO 2012 logo made using colour enamels and weigh 500g.
Commemorative coins with a face value of 20 hryvnia, featuring a holographic image of the official UEFA EURO 2012 logo, as well as ten hryvnia silver coins dedicated to each of the four Ukrainian host cities – Donetsk, Kharkiv, Kyiv and Lviv – have also been produced.
The National Bank of Ukraine will use the same design for 100,000 coins made of nickel silver with a face value of five hryvnia.
