The pitch in Chelas, Lisbon, will drive a social programme for the community's youth, using football as a tool for transformation and social development.
Atlético Madrid midfielder Tatiana Pinto and former Portuguese international Ricardo Quaresma attended the inauguration, which included a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a performance from renowned fado singer and Chelas local Sara Correia.
The launch of the initiative, also supported by Common Goal, Lisbon City Council, and the CAIS Association, took place ahead of the UEFA Women’s Champions League final at the Estádio José Alvalade.
UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin and UEFA Foundation for Children board of trustees member Clarence Seedorf also visited the pitch before the final got underway.
Transforming lives through football
The pitch will be used to promote a social programme helping young people learn skills through teamwork initiatives and vocational training, allowing them to take on the challenges of adult and professional life.
Employability pathways will be offered to adults, including empowerment workshops, career guidance and access to job opportunities.
The pitch is set to benefit 1,000 people, strengthening the local community by combining sports and education. It will also have a positive impact on the planet, having partially been made using Lay's packaging waste.
"We are very proud to bring Lay's RePlay to Portugal, a project that reflects our vision of a more sustainable future with a positive impact on communities. We want this field in Chelas to be a meeting point where young people can learn, grow, and build a better future for themselves and the country."
